Reading to dip your toes into the weight lifting waters? Looking for a super fun alternative to hitting the weight room floor?

Introducing BARBELLS by Fit Club

Offered exclusively at Fit Club, this strength training class is suitable for all levels of fitness. BARBELLS is choreographed to a variety of top 40 pop and electronic dance tracks, using the beat of the music to drive each repetition. Every month, the workout changes with the playlist, ensuring that you won’t be bored and will keep coming back for more.

Just dumbbells?

Yep! Just a barbell and a 'bench' is required. We may take the plates off the bar for high intensity squat presses or small, targeted exercises for the shoulders, but that's it.

Then what can you expect?

BARBELLS makes weight lifting accessible to all participants, from the uninitiated to the seasoned weightlifter. Each class incorporates the three key lifts -- squat, push, and hinge. Our extended, hour-long class incorporates smaller, targeted exercises for your shoulders, triceps, and biceps.

This class was the answer to the common problem I had when I taught Les Mills BodyPump™ in big box gyms. Too many bodies in one class and not enough time in a single track to offer individual guidance. With a class limit of just 6, I'm able to see and properly cue every body through safe and effective movements.

Who is going to love this class?

  • Inexperienced lifters: if you are totally new to weight lifting, the relatively light weight on the barbell ensures you are learning at a safe and attainable level.

  • Experienced lifters: those who are accustomed to working in the 10-20 rep range are going to love the variety that a high volume, lower weight workout provides.

  • Cardio haters: whether high impact is not suitable for your joints or you just aren't into jumping around like a crazy person, you're going to love that you can get your dose of cardiovascular endurance training another way.

  • Cardio junkies (who should be cross training): we love this format for runners who need to develop much needed posterior strength to prevent hip and low back pain and injuries.

  • Music lovers: we keep swapping out the tunes, so if you love being able to sing along with your favorite radio hits, this is going to be your go-to. Just don't blame me when you start mimicking the workout every time you hear these tracks outside of class!

"I feel like a super bad ass when we do [a] combo squat move and the music goes with it perfectly. I like the variety of working on different areas in one workout (rather than 'back day' or 'legs day') -- and the workout goes by so fast. I'm challenged to push myself every time and I definitely am seeing results!"

- Tamra Wysocki-Niimi

"I love BARBELLS. I've found it to be a great challenge and an effective way to gain strength quickly. I'd never lifted weights before, so this was all new to me. Great workout in a short amount of time."

- Kimberly Sluis

How many calories might you burn?

A quick (and very unscientific) check-in with our students at the end of class revealed an average of 400 - 600 calories burned. Not bad for an hour's work!
