ONE HEALTHY CHOICE LEADS TO ANOTHER

I’d been doing yoga on and off for many years so I was happy to find Angela’s garage classes after moving to Berwyn a couple years ago. Yoga is my go to exercise, but I also like walking and jogging. After a year or so of taking yoga from Angela, I got up the nerve to take her Kettlebells class in the spiffy new Fit Club space. I never thought I would take a class like that.  While I’m not totally out of shape, I’ve never been naturally athletic, I’m not very well coordinated, and I hate gyms. But I’m staring 50 in the face and thought, “I’d like to be stronger, fitter and just feel better when I hit that number,” so I decided to challenge myself. 


So off I went to my first class, dreading it and trying to talk myself out of it on the walk there. It was hard! I couldn’t make it through all of the circuits, and collapsed in a heap more than once during the class. But, to my shock, it was actually kind of fun. I laughed at myself and it helped that Angela was very encouraging. I made it to the end and was proud of myself. Then I was sore for four days! Ouch. But it got better and I have begun to feel stronger. 


Since I’m more aware of my body, ie. I feel my sore muscles, I find I’m taking better care of myself. This added benefit surprised me. Instead of the easy but sugary and processed Pop Tart for breakfast, I find myself eating fruit and yogurt. And loving it! Making time to exercise has become a priority. I’m eating more fruits and veggies, and looking for healthy recipes. And I’m beginning to win my longtime battle with insomnia. I’m benefitting in so many ways, and it all began by simply taking a 40 minute class once a week.
